Nursing Opportunities at Iowa Health System

Excel With Us

At the Iowa Health System, we are making sure the focus stays on patient care delivery. We are proud to participate in Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB), a joint effort by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. We are working each day to improve our health care delivery model and empower our nurses with the resources to do what they do best - care for our patients.

Magnet™ for Nursing
The American Nurses Credentialing Center designated Trinity Regional Health System of the Quad-Cities  as a Nurse Magnet facility in 2008, making Trinity Regional Health System the first bi-state hospital to achieve such status. Trinity Regional Health System was recognized for its exemplary nursing staff, efficient processes and caring culture.

In 2009, the American Nurses Credentialing Center designated St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids as a Nurse Magnet facility, becoming the first and only hospital in Cedar Rapids, and only the sixth in Iowa to receive the Magnet award. Less than 5 percent of hospitals across the U.S. receive this prestigious Magnet™ Recognition.

Nursing Career Development

Nursing Empowerment
Your voice matters. Our hospitals have various nursing councils, committees and task forces to empower our nursing staff with opportunities for leadership, critical thinking, problem solving and shared decision-making. These groups have been organized to explore issues such as the professional image of nursing, nursing research, clinical operations, and performance improvement. We look to you for input, experience and expertise as we evaluate our patient-care delivery model.

Nursing Leadership
Our hospitals offer nursing leadership at all levels. Our nurses enhance their individual and team leadership skills through frontline leadership programs, leadership conferences and continuing education.

Nurse Advocacy Council
Iowa Health System believes that nurses are the experts when it comes to the impact of legislation regarding health care.

The Iowa Health System Nurse Advocacy Council provides nurses the tools to become educated on health care legislation and encourages them to contact legislators on issues of importance. This council will work to educate and empower the largest nursing group in Iowa and will give nurses a stronger voice on legislative issues that impact the nursing profession. Learn more.

Nurses Making a Difference

"Deb goes well beyond the immediate medical needs of her patients to help support them and their families.  She never gives up, personally following up with referrals and resources, arguing with insurance companies if necessary, and literally doing anything else that can help a patient feel better. She is utterly selfless and giving, upbeat and optimistic in even the most dire circumstances."-Rekha, Wife of a patient

"Every day Jess can be found offering comfort to a surgical patient's family, tucking a warm blanket on a pre-op patient, orienting a new nurse who needs to brush up on aseptic technique, or standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a surgeon and her surgery team in a complicated surgical case. She is a nurse that people can count on to give her best....every hour...every day."-Pamela, CEO

"Linda strives to make every birth a unique experience, and she makes new mothers feel like they are the only patient on the unit, regardless of how busy the unit might be.  Her goal is to lauch a new mother with confidence and skills to feel comfortable in her role, taking pride in the importance of birthing and mothering a newborn."-Susan, Supervisor

"Carol was one of the 135 St. Luke's associates that was displaced from her home during the June Epic Flood in Cedar Rapids. Despite losing all of her possessions, Carol showed unwavering humanity by working throughout the flood to provide care in Cedar Rapids only operating hospital."- Jill, Manager
