Good Governance

Iowa Health System exists to care for you - the communities we serve.

When choosing an Iowa Health System hospital, clinic, physician, or partner, we want you to know that your community members, who make up our Board of Directors, govern our organizations caringly and responsibly. Iowa Health System has voluntarily adopted many of our industry's governance "best practices." We've done so to further assure our stakeholders that our governance and management is conducted responsibly and warrants the trust you place in us.

In September 2003, the Iowa Health Board of Directors voluntarily adopted over 40 changes to its governance structure to better comply with  governance best practices. Iowa Health received advice from external consultants in developing these improvements and adopted them shortly after the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 became effective.

The committee structure of our Board of Directors was modified to better reflect nonprofit governance best practices. The current description of the committees' responsibility is behind the link to "Committees."

The Charity Care Policies of Iowa Health System hospitals and providers can be found by clicking on the link to "Charity Care."

Our Conflict of Interest Policy and Questionnaire are behind the "Conflict of Interest" link.

Iowa Health System has devoted substantial resources to compliance activities. Since 1997, when the Board of Directors adopted the current Compliance Program, the organization and the Compliance Committee have developed the Compliance Policies behind the "Compliance" link. Additionally, the Guide to Business Partners is distributed to those with whom we conduct business.
