Allen College, a part of Allen Health Systems, Inc., has provided excellent health care education in the Waterloo area for more than 75 years. It is a private, co-educational, regionally accredited post-secondary institution categorized by the Carnegie Foundation as a Special Focus Institution.
Allen College offers five academic degree programs:

  • The Associate of Science in Radiography (ASR) - a two-year degree program.
  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) - for pre- and post-licensure students seeking to start or advance a career in professional nursing.
  • The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) - this program offers six tracks for nurses wishing to advance their careers. The tracks are:
    • Family,
    • Acute care,
    • Adult/gerontological,
    • Adult psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner,
    • A nurse educator, and
    • Nurse leader.
  • The Bachelor of Health Science (BHS) - a program to prepare clinical laboratory scientists and nuclear medical technologists.
  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) – a 24 month part-time online program for nurses who currently hold a master’s degree in nursing and are certified as advance registered nurse practitioners.

Iowa Health - Des Moines has a long history of providing exceptional quality graduate medical education to physicians in training. The four campuses that make up Iowa Health - Des Moines, Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Blank Children's Hospital and Methodist West Hospital, host five residency programs with approximately 90 resident physicians each academic year.
